Yeah i have really done no progress what so ever, the past two weeks have been consumed by trying to make this model sub divide, and failing at getting the nice clean edges.
You can devide the geometry in Zbrush with out effecting the geometry structure by adjusting some of the values in the options. You can do the same in maya too.
i tried divide but in order to get the smooth edges i had to divide to a large degree thus making smoothing impossible, and i know i am working on making the texture less gouged.
you might consider putting a ship designation or something on other end of the craft from the blue stripe so you have more than just two colors going on
You have a good start with the diffuse map, once you get the dividing figured out. Is there a normal/bump map on this? It the end I wouldn't have the bumps so big, it looks like stone now, which I doubt it is a stone ship, but again a good start and the simple blue stripe going down the ship is again, simple, but adds a lot of character to it.
Interesting shape. It's very straight, but broken up enough to look interesting. I like the potential this piece has. I can see it being in Eve. Don't be afraid to use separate objects. If everything is 1 object, everything you do will effect more than the intended piece. For example, edge flow and poly count will be lower if a high detailed hatch is separate from the main body. It won't be fun to have more geometry on the main body just to account for a hatch.

ReplyDeleteI like the shape of your ship. The blue stripe is an excellent accent. Is this an enormous craft or smaller for a single person/crew?
ReplyDeleteYou may want to think of this when determining the scale of your metal texture. If it was huge, the metal would be much smoother than it is currently.
