The initial sketches for the ship that I will be modeling this semester. Story wise, the plan is for it to be the ship used by the character I will be building in Game Modeling later this semester.
You can go more in depth with your materials instead of using just the color. Your perspective is off, I would suggest using a 3D program to get everything in shape before making the details. Also, for your concept, even though it is for your reference, it is hard for me to distinguish anything so add in some basic values in your thumbnails.
From what I can see here is looks cool. Just be sure to add plenty of detail. A lot of high-poly models look good because they have a lot of deatil, not neccessarily because they are difficult.
Like Winston said I think that the colors could have more variety. The idea of a cruiser is pretty cool but you may want to define what purppose this cruiser is for. Example, would it be made by military to withstand a barrage or something like a scouting vehicle for speed?
I can see that working. Where's the cockpit? how does it fly? How does the crew access the ship? Just think of vehicles in terms of function and mechanics. Don't worry too much about the drawing.
This concept appears to be unfinished, but I only think that because the orthographic views don't really resemble the 3/4 shot.
I can't say much else on this one to be honest. It looks like it would be a neat spacecraft once all the details are in their rightful places.
One thing to keep in mind when making fictional vehicles is to make sure everything LOOKS like it would work, even if you have no idea how a system would work.
For example, if you were doing an engine system, there should be some sort of exhaust system with turbines or some other propulsion system visible.
Asking people what they think of your design (once you start modeling it) will really help refine your vehicle into something sweet, so don't hesitate to ask people for critiques.
looks good for a basic start, i really wanna see where you go with this. With such a small craft it will be a little hard to get everything working right i think but it may end up looking awesome.
It's a solid design, very functional and realistic for a transport. I would try and fix the tail though. It doesn't seem to taper correctly and it also looks like its bent a little to the left.
I actually really like the geometric basis for this design. It looks like something I would see. I will have to chime in with the crowd and say that more detail is needed however, not necessarily for inside objects, but more along the lines of hatches and other external details. Keep in mind that not all of the details need to be modeled, as some of them can be textured on instead. Then again, I'm used to low-poly modeling, so that's the mindset that I have.

ReplyDeleteaside from the off perspectives it looks cool from most angles, the basic side view doesn't even look like the same ship though, so i'm kinda confused
