Tank Rover

I am getting my inspiration from the frame of a go kart. Basically it will be a gokart or buggy with tank tracks attached instead of wheels.

Please excuse my inability to create proper proportion and angling. These concept sketches give the general idea though.

  1. Obviously my concepts are not the best drawn in the world, but they give a general idea that I am going for a go-kart type vehicle with tank treads. The last render is the WIP of what I did over the weekend.

  2. I don't know much about vehicles but I think you have a good start on things. For your orthographic drawings, you should use guide lines or a program to help you make things more exact like CAD so you could use them as direct reference while modeling. Regardless of that, you got your concept all made up for yourself and thats great. If you wanted some inspiration for some post apocalyptic vehicles in the future, look at the concept art for the game Motorstorm, they are awesome.

  3. The mesh seems like it will end up creating a very nice model. A very good start overall, the concepts are a little rough but the model really shows that you know what your doing. The only part i am worried about is the engine, you do not really have a good picture of it in your concepts and considering how important that part is it looks like it will be hard to pull off.

  4. looks cool even with the horrid perspective, though you really need to have more space taken up by working parts of some sort as it is now it doesn't seem to have anything that would make it run.

  6. Neat. I love the AO render. It looks like a very interesting buggy. Don't worry too much about drawing, but do keep in mind how it's going to work. The from wheels don't connect to anything. Does the vehicle have an engine? Is it two seat or one? Do the back triangular wheels hinder it's turning functions?

  7. Despite the severe lack of foreshortening, I can imagine this concept being used as a vehicle in Borderlands or even Starcraft.

Can't wait to see your progress on this one. :D

  8. The frame looks really strong and able to roll around and not get hurt, but is there an engine anywhere? I see some sort of box thing in the back but it seems to be missing in the side views

  9. Tommy, hell I did forget in the side views, whoops! Yes, the engine will be on a panel on the back.

  10. The concept brings back some childhood memories. I really like the concept and I feel it could easily fit into any given post-apocalypse game. Since you already have the frame done, this could be finished in no time!

  11. Just because there's an engine on the back doesn't mean it will run make sure to run a drive shaft or something that connects to the treads.

  12. Interesting concept. The rear tread set is pretty unique. I think you may need to draw out a few more details though. Details for the seats, and some other key components within the buggy will be important.
