Tank Rover Texture

I've been working on...well the assignment for this week.

Below you will find the final render and two of the four 2048 (2k) texture maps. Why four maps? No real reason other than the fact that I wanted my textures to by nice and crisp. Also, 2 of the 4 are only uv maps are of the frame (which was a pain in the... to uv map even with the help of pelt mapping). Probably a waste since i'm sure I could drastically reduce the size of those uv's and still have something that looks just fine, but again we didn't have any size requirements, so I didn't put any on myself. It also wouldn't be very difficult to transfer everything into one map with the way I have everything laid out.

  1. I think a specular map would do this some good. The texture seems really mate all over the place and I think some shine in some arias would enhance this render. Looks great though!

  2. You're going to teach me how to texture some time:D Nice work. Everything except for the treads and chairs is all the same metal. I would break it up a bit. For example, the rails could be aluminum or some lighter metal. I would also trey to find some way to add color to the current texture you have now. It's all brown, grey, and desaturated red. Here is a good reference for metal with color. notice all the blues, reds, greens and so on.

  3. Josh, you already heard my critiques :)

Looks great, and I see you changed the things I noticed. Now instead of the shifter blending in with the cage, it blends in with the chair. lol

  4. All good suggestions everyone. Thanks for the feedback. I agree with you there Winston. I should mention that currently there is only a diffuse map on. I plan on making a spec map the week that we bake our normals...which looks to be week 6, so i'll be sure to add that in.

Daniel, if you want texturing tutorials try www.cgtuts.com. Search for stuff by Ben Tate and Chris Tate. I learned a lot from just sitting down and watching them texture their various objects.

Daniel, I was thinking the same thing about the rails being the same color. I actually have a second one that actually has the rails more of a dark gray metal look, kind of like what the engine looks like. I post both verisons for feedback when I get the normals and spec maps on in week 6. I'll also look into adding different colors and see what I can come up with, thanks for the link!

I'll get those shifters looking right eventually...I may do something entirely different to them from the rest of the vehicle...I'll see how things go.

  5. looks great, I'm not sure what exactly this thing is for but i would like to see more decals on it, whether they are caution labels or logos or what ever i think it would help break up the different parts and add flavor too it.

also the engine still doesn't look connected, did you just give up on connecting it?
