Midterm Presentation

Normal Map test

Here is what I got so far on the wings and the facial edge loops.

Here's the full body.

Here are the UVs.

  1. have you done a uv of this yet i really wanna see how this looks laid out because although the feathers look good i can see them being a texture nightmare.

  2. I unwrapped the first feather before duplicating it. It uses two planar maps on top of each other for the unwrapping.

  3. The forehead seems to be quite large. This creature must have a large brain. Get them feathers duplicated over and just be sure to spend a lot of hours on this. I just don't want to see you fall too far behind.

  4. The feathers look good but instead of just copying them over with the same UVs, you should make more large plains for multiple feathers that way you get more variation in feathers.

  5. Feathers are looking great. You may want to focus on connecting the head with the body. You'll find it get's more exciting to work on a piece the more of it you get completed.

There are quite a few edge loops running medially (vertical from the center) through the head which could probably be tied off somewhere at the base of the head/neck.

The head is tricky to connect to the body, as the edge loops usually don't match up exactly the way you want it to.

Let me know if you need anything and I'll be sure to help you out any way I can.

  6. What winston said. a couple plains will look fine
heres one quick example of what you can do with a single plain:

  7. Good use of wings. The body looks pretty good to. Did you box model the head? When working with detail, start low, work high. Also look up something called "strip modeling." i personally find it easier to model a face with strip modeling. It may seem like it would take longer, but it doesn't.
